Losing Weight on an Indian Diet

In general, Indians tend to have a tendency to gain weight. We have a genetic anomaly which causes us to put on more weight in the abdominal muscles. We must therefore, take care so as to not binge eat and become obese. Also, India is the world's diabetic capital due to the number of rice eaters in the country. In fact, the staple food of South India is rice. All these factors make it difficult for us Indians to lose weight. We must therefore, devise an Indian diet plan to lose weight.

The first thing to do is to exclude rice and all its varieties from our diet. Rice in our meal does not digest properly and gets deposited in our stomach and blood vessel walls. This causes diabetes and blood cholesterol increase. An Indian diet would have more of protein in the form of pulses and dals and less of rice. Also, rotis ought to become more frequent in our diets. A lot of Indian dishes which use oil and butter should be eliminated from the diet. These contribute unhealthy fats to our digestive system that helps in the weight loss dinner Indian

It is necessary to include proteins in our diet. This is a little difficult if you follow a vegetarian Indian diet. If eggs are part of your meal, include more of them in your diet. Milk is also rich in protein but is to be included in limited quantities. Too many sweets also cause an increase in the sugar levels of the body. Don't ignore the vegetables in your meal as they are the most healthy part of the Indian diet.

Although India is known as the 'land of spices', too much spice in your meal is harmful. Too much salt is also harmful to the body. Recently, there is an increased consumption in processed foods. These are not good for the system and it is best if they are avoided. Fibre is encouraged in all three meals of the day as are fresh fruit juices.

For a weight loss program, the average Indian diet would include a glass of fruit juice in the morning, rotis with fibre-rich veggies in the afternoon and a glass of milk for dinner. This would qualify for the amount of required calorie intake for the average Indian. If this diet is followed, then weight loss can easily be achieved.

Gestational Diabetes Diet - the Best Way of Controlling Gestational Diabetes

Women suffering from gestational diabetes symptoms usually have several questions such as: what exactly is the disease?, how does one acquire it?, whether it will impact the health of the baby?, and how can it be controlled? We will explore all these questions and more detailing the most effective way of controlling gestational diabetes which is to have a proper diabetes diet for pregnancy or a gestational diabetes diet plan.

Gestational Diabetes:

Gestational diabetes is a metabolic disorder that commonly appears during the later stages of pregnancy in women. Controlling gestational diabetes is extremely important for the health of the unborn baby. Otherwise, the consequences can be extremely fatal for both the baby and the mother. One of the most essential components of care for diabetes while pregnant is to start a gestational diabetes diet (Diabetes Diet Pregnancy).

In the entire life of a woman, pregnancy is considered as the most sensitive and life-threatening period where a lot of complications can occur. One such complication is Gestational Diabetes, commonly termed as GDM. This form of diabetes is highly similar to that of Type 2 diabetes and appears predominantly in almost 3-5% of all pregnancies. Gestational diabetes can be rightly described as a condition where the body cells of a pregnant woman develop insulin resistance and fail to use insulin effectively. Even the insulin produced inside the body is low and not sufficiently enough in reducing blood glucose levels, thereby resulting in hyperglycemia or abnormally high glucose levels in the blood.

Causes of Gestational Diabetes:

During pregnancy, it is the placenta through which the fetus receives its nutritional supplies. Also, the placenta secretes certain hormones such as estrogen, cortisol and human placental lactogen that are extremely essential in preserving pregnancy. Gestational diabetes primarily occurs when placental hormones interfere with the insulin secretion from the pancreas and its absorption into the cells. This behavior is termed as "contra-insulin effect" and usually appears approximately between 20-24 weeks of pregnancy and continues till child birth. An interesting aspect regarding diabetes while pregnant is that insulin resistance tends to increase in a relative proportion with increasing age of pregnancy.

Symptoms of Gestational Diabetes:

The best way to identify any disease is to locate its associated symptoms. Gestational diabetes symptoms are very similar to Type 2 diabetes. Some of these symptoms include increased thirst, excessive hunger, frequent urination, fatigue, weight loss and irritability. Apart from these, other associated symptoms include abnormal weight loss and blurred vision that can develop if the disease gets left unnoticed or untreated.

By keeping these points in mind, you can see the importance of starting a Gestational Diabetes Diet (Diabetes Diet Pregnancy). Not only does it offer the best way of controlling gestational diabetes symptoms, it is also the safest. We strongly recommend you research further for information on this diet. Many women who have diabetes while pregnant already have done so and found the relief they were looking for.

In the antenatal clinic, a pregnant woman after undergoing preliminary clinical examination has to be given a 75g oral glucose load without regard to the time of the last meal. A venous blood sample is collected at 2 hours for estimating plasma glucose by GOD-POD method. GDM is diagnosed if 2 hr plasma glucose is ≥ 140 mg/dl. This one step procedure of loading pregnant women with 75gms of Glucose and diagnosing GDM is simple, economical and feasible

What are the complications of Gestational Diabetes?

Increased birth weight of the baby. This will also increase the risk for the mother during delivery which includes higher risk for caesarean section.

The baby is also at increased risk of developing Diabetes in later life.

Fact-check: Dr. Dixit’s ‘Two meals a day’ diet for weight-loss & diabetes

The Times of India distributed an article titled- 'Two-dinners daily' teacher to drive diabetes battle. The article cited Dr. Jagannath Dixit who expressed that, "On the off chance that one pursues the two supper (multi day) practice, I am certain there won't just be weight reduction, yet it will likewise help in controlling diabetes. Inversion of diabetes is additionally conceivable." Dr. Dixit is the delegated brand represetative for handling heftiness and diabetes by the restorative training division of Govt. of Maharashtra. BJP pioneer Girish Mahajan, who heads the medicinal training division, expressed that 'the motivation to name Dr. Dixit as the brand minister was that his 'diet plan' to handle corpulence and diabetes is yielding outcomes.' Dr. Dixit has promoted this idea of 'two suppers every day' by a few recordings on Youtube, with the most prevalent video with 1.6M perspectives, just as viral substance via web-based networking media, spread to a great extent through WhatsApp gatherings. Dr. Dixit claims that having just 2 dinners per day, each enduring under 55 mins, prompts critical weight reduction of around 8kg in 3 months. According to Dr. Dixit, lessening the recurrence of sustenance consumption, paying little respect to the amount or the nature of the nourishment, can affect the insulin level. In his Marathi video below, he has likewise asserted that this technique can conceivably turn around the pre-diabetic conditions. In this article, we will examine: The connection among heftiness and diabetes The proposals for weight reduction in diabetic patients Dr. Dixit's hypothesis identified with 'two suppers every day' Regardless of whether these cases depend on existing examination by Dr. Dixit End and risks of the falsehood What is the connection between Obesity and Diabetes? Diabetes and heftiness have risen as the greatest wellbeing challenges in India. Calorie admission (however eating) in abundance of utilization (work out), which is then changed over into intemperate fat that can prompt heftiness. Weight, an overflow of vitality in cells, thus prompts insulin opposition, a condition where glucose take-up is disabled. This hindrance in glucose take-up prompts higher glucose in blood terms as diabetes. Insulin opposition is the essential driver of sort 2 diabetes and it happens a long time before sort 2 diabetes begins in people. Notwithstanding nourishment admission, practice and other way of life factors, hereditary qualities assume an immense job in deciding the danger of weight and diabetes. While, over 90% of diabetic patients fall in this classification called Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, there are a few different variations of Diabetes, for example, type 1 with various pathophysiological instruments. The standard proposals for weight reduction in diabetic patients are: Calorie confinement, Little continuous suppers, Customary activities, and Hostile to hyperglycaemic medications might be endorsed by pro diabetes doctors, to keep up a basal blood glucose. Enormous fast changes in blood glucose in diabetic patients can be dangerous and patients must keep up ideal glucose in the dinner by controlling the recurrence, quality and amount of their eating regimen. These suggestions depend on distributed information from randomized controlled preliminaries (RCTs) and meta-examinations, for example an aggregate assessment of a few RCTs to expand test size (quiet numbers). Is the 'two dinners every day' hypothesis compelling in overseeing insulin? We inspect Dr. Dixit's cases: Guarantee 1: Food admission ought to be close to 55 mins in length to maintain a strategic distance from the second episode of insulin Dr. Dixit's contention is that on the off chance that one keeps on eating for over 55 minutes, a second episode of insulin (in equivalent sum) would be discharged. Notwithstanding a low measure of nonstop insulin discharge, insulin is discharged in two stages in sound humans in bigger amounts. Stage I, not long after in the wake of beginning the supper and, stage II, around 45 to 60 mins after the utilization of a dinner. Any supper would trigger the two periods of insulin discharge, in extent to the nature of the dinner. In any case, in sort 2 diabetes patients, the main period of insulin discharge is hindered which creates the powerlessness to process glucose after dinners prompting postprandial hyperglycaemia. Since, the insulin discharge fluctuates with nourishment admission, it is false to guarantee that constraining sustenance admission time to 55 mins can stop the stage II insulin discharge. Guarantee 2: Quantity and nature of nourishment is unessential to insulin discharge Dr. Dixit's case that 'a fixed measure of insulin is discharged in light of each feast regardless of amount and nature of supper'. In his english video, he likewise explained that notwithstanding eating desserts is allowable notwithstanding for diabetic patients on the off chance that they pursue the two supper daily eating routine arrangement. In actuality, various productions with well-planned examinations recommended that the insulin reaction is corresponding to the measure of sustenance and connected with starch substance of the nourishment. That is, bigger amounts of sustenance discharges bigger dosages of insulin. Sustenance insulin index (FII), the measure of insulin discharged because of a feast as against the reference nourishment (bread), for different dinner structures has been contemplated and distributed in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The investigation demonstrated that, when insulin level was estimated in sound individuals, who devoured 13 unique suppers with a similar vitality content, it emphatically corresponded with the insulin request anticipated by FII of the segment nourishments. This implies, amount and quality both, hugy affects the measure of insulin discharged, which invalidates the second and most risky case. Guarantee 3: Two suppers, whenever during the day, can diminish weight and conceivably control diabetes Dr. Dixit recommended in his popular video, that having two suppers whenever during the day, even as late as at 9 pm at night, can help with corpulence and diabetes. We inspected two conflicting examinations to comprehend and actuality check Dr. Dixit's announcements. A study, distributed in 2014 in Diabetologia, with 27 type-2 diabetic patients in each gathering, tried this impact analyzed 2 huge suppers which were devoured before in the day (for example lunch and breakfast) versus 6 little suppers for the duration of the day, and reasoned that there was a noteworthy contrast in body weight and fasting plasma glucose among others. Be that as it may, as per an investigation distributed in the diary 'Diabetes Care', two dinners can prompt an essentially higher insulin reaction when contrasted with various suppers. In 12 diabetic patients, two huge dinners delivered more noteworthy increment in glucose and insulin discharge than 6 little suppers, gave that the caloric utilization in two enormous dinners were equivalent to six little suppers. This implies, while Dr. Dixit may not be completely off-base in recommending the two feast multi day plan. Be that as it may, recommending that the planning of the two suppers are superfluous for weight and diabetes is truthfully erroneous. Likewise, there is far more prominent proof, in solid diaries, that recommends that, if the complete parts of the suppers are of the equivalent calorific worth, for example iso-caloric eating regimens, littler ordinary suppers are obviously better for stoutness and diabetes than bigger inconsistent dinners.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome - Diagnosis, Symptoms and Potential Complications Polycystic ovary syndrome has an effect on thousands of women each year. This particular condition commonly results in a variety of symptoms, including abnormal or painful monthly cycles. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a type of hormonally induced condition in adult females, which develops when the ovaries end up producing tiny cysts instead of releasing their ovum cells monthly as they should. Women having this condition often go through extended monthly cycles, which are also irregular in many cases. Some also experience putting on weight or perhaps abnormal hair growth. The disorder may appear around the teenage years, typically manifesting in earlier monthly irregularities. Yet, some women discover that they may have this disorder by suddenly gaining extra weight or perhaps have difficulties conceiving. Medical doctors still don't understand the specific reasons for the development of this disease. Thus the irregular or perhaps completely missing ovulation can result in issues when trying to become pregnant. Having said that, an earlier recognition and management can definitely aid in reducing any potential long-term complications. If you have had problems with your menstrual cycles shortly after you started having them, or if you've struggled with fertility problems or perhaps you experienced any mysterious weight gain, there's a chance you're experiencing PCOS. Male testosterone, referred to as androgens, in many cases are the reason for real bodily symptoms for example the development of excessive facial or perhaps body hair. Possible critical acne development or male-pattern thinning of the hair will also be looked at. These types of symptoms will vary greatly depending on the ethnic background of a patient, which means this symptom will not be always found. Irregular monthly periods is definitely the most generally reported indication. This will involve abnormally lengthy menstrual cycles as well as under 8 periods every year, or even the complete lack of monthly periods for over 4 months. Potential complications which could be a consequence of untreated PCOS range from: Several patients having this upsetting condition could possibly develop darker skin on many different areas of the body such as the breasts, underarms, neck, thighs or feet. Women with this syndrome are more inclined to develop high blood sugar levels as well as diabetes type 2, generally resulting from blood insulin resistance caused by being overweight. Approximately 50% of women suffering from this problem have moderate to severe weight problems. Sufferers will also will have issues getting pregnant as a result of unpredictable or maybe missing ovulation. In fact, sadly, this is the most prevalent reason behind infertility in females.

How to Increase Fertility? Avoid Xenoestrogens

Xenoestrogens are increasingly being blamed for a whole host of chronic conditions including infertility. To increase fertility naturally you need to become aware of what xenoestrogens are, why they are bad for your health and fertility and how to avoid them. What are Xenoestrogens? Xenoestrogens literally mean 'foreign estrogens'. Xeno is a Greek word for foreign. Any type of estrogen that's not manufactured by your body can be classified as xenoestrogen. This also includes plant based estrogens called phytoestrogens. Xenoestrogens vs. Phytoestrogens Phytoestrogens have a much milder effect on the body than the endogenous (body made) estrogens or other man made (xeno) estrogens. Because of this milder action they can actually be beneficial in treatment of estrogen dominant conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids, polyps and PCOS. This is because they can block the receptors where your regular estrogen or xenoestrogen would dock and prevent it from exerting a much more powerful reaction. However phytoestrogens should be avoided by men with subfertility. Estrogens will interfere with testosterone metabolism in men, and in those men where spermatogenesis (formation and maturation of new sperm) is already compromised further disruptions to the endocrine system should be avoided or minimized. Why are Xenoestrogens bad? Xenoestrogens have been shown to interfere with male and female fertility, predispose to estrogen dominant conditions (PCOS, Endometriosis, Fibroids, Uterine Polyps, Estrogen depended cancers such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancer), contribute to sperm abnormalities and disrupt reproductive system function with their false messages. In wildlife, particularly fish, xenoestrogens have been shown to cause sex reversal by interfering with the gonadal development. Some scientists believe that high levels of estrogens/xenoestrogens in humans can contribute to feminization of male fetus and predispose male babies to infertility later in life. Where are Xenoestrogens found? According to the European Commission 99% of the 100,000 recently introduced chemicals are under-regulated. Chemicals which find their way to our cleaning products and personal care products are not subject to rigorous testing like drugs and food. Your exposure to xenoestrogens comes mainly from unfiltered tap water, household cleaning products, cosmetics, personal care products and non-organically grown food. Increasing your fertility naturally requires that you become vigilant about your exposure to xenoestrogens. How to avoid Xenoestrogens? Here is a very partial list of substances which have been labeled as 'xenoestrogens':

  • Parabens - found in personal care products, creams and lotions.
  • E127 (Erythrosine) - used as red food coloring.
  • Phthalates - used as plasticizers in plastic bottles, food wrapping foils and any other plastic items such as toys, containers, tupperware etc...
  • DEHP - another PVC plasticizer.
  • Propyl gallate - antioxidant used in oil production.
  • PCB's - used in glues, paint and lubricants.
  • Atrazine - used as herbicide.
  • Pentachlorophenol - used as wood preservative and pesticide.
  • Nonylphenol - found in surfactants, detergents, pesticides and emulsifiers.
  • Hexachlorocyclohexane and heptachlor - found in pesticides.
  • TSP - Tri-sodium phosphates found in washing detergents and fabric softeners.

Some medications also contain xenoestrogens. Medications are not 100% absorbed by the body which means that anywhere between 10%-40% of the medications can reach the waterways and pollute the environment and our food. They are: OCP (oral contraceptive pill) Premarin Cimetidine HRT Progesterone creams with parabens (methylparaben, butylparaben, ethylparaben) Creams and lotions can be absorbed by the skin and enter our circulation. Dr. Eckhart MD, warns that a substance delivered topically via the skin equals 10 times an oral dose. He also cautions that caffeine found in tea, coffee, colas and other caffeinated drinks potentiates estrogen in the body by as much as 70%. Therefore be mindful of your coffee and cola consumption. How to increase fertility by avoiding xenoestrogens? Stick to a simple rule!

  • Eat only organically grown food.
  • Use natural personal care products, cosmetics and household cleaning products.
  • Avoid plastic, don't store food in plastic containers - use glass instead.
  • Avoid canned food (cans are lined with plastic inside).
  • Avoid teflon cookware and use cast-iron cookware.
  • Avoid commercial pesticides and herbicides.
  • Drink and shower in filtered water only.
  • Avoid dairy as diary is made from animals breast milk which is loaded with estrogens regardless if organic or non-organic. Non-organic dairy has even more estrogens due to all the hormones, drugs and pesticides animals are exposed to in farming.
  • If male-factor infertility is present avoid: soy, flaxseeds, canola oil, safflower oil, cottonseed oil, flaxseed oil and alfalfa sprouts.

And above all become an avid ingredient reader. Read labels of every product you support with your money. After all, your purchasing decisions is what's keeping these manufacturers in business. By giving your hard earned money to companies which pollute the environment and contribute to your fertility problems you are condoning their manufacturing practices and supporting their growth. By choosing to give your money only to environmentally and health conscious companies you are supporting their efforts and products. We can influence which products will be showing up in the future on our supermarket shelves by saying NO to any product containing substances toxic to our health, fertility and the environment. I would love to hear your thoughts on increasing fertility and avoiding xenoestrogens. Were you already aware of these substances or was this the first time you heard of them? What do you think about our manufacturing standards and testing methods when it comes to household cleaning products and personal care products?

Five High Protein Low Fat Foods That You Should Be Eating (and They Taste Great Too!)

There are many different types of foods that you should eat, but there are a few foods that are exceptionally good for you. Especially in the protein department. When I first started to learn about health and nutrition, I really only thought protein came in meats that were packed with fat, or powders that tastes awful and make you gag whenever you try to swallow them. But, as it turns out, I was wrong. Dead wrong. There are literally hundreds of different sources of protein out there that you can consume that are high protein and low fat. The best part is, a lot of them taste great. So what I am going to do next is tell you about five different sources of protein that I enjoy on a weekly basis as well as some others that I don't eat very often (but are also very good for you). Number 1 - Tuna Tuna is an excellent source of protein. One that is completely overrated by many. You know, as a child (and adult for many of my years), I would stroll around the supermarket buying groceries and whenever I passed one of those little blue tuna cans, I always wondered to myself why anyone would eat that crap. Well, it turns out that tuna has a whopping 27 grams of protein per 100 gram serving...so that's why all these people were buying tuna all along. Tuna is a favorite source of protein among many people and especially bodybuilders because it is fairly cheap, and in addition to containing lots of protein, tuna also contains a lot of omega-3 fatty acids. Number 2 - Almonds While some of you may scoff at my choice for number two, almonds really are a great source of protein, as well as a healthy food in general. Now, I know I said that all the foods on this list were going to be high protein and low fat, but I just had to make an exception for almonds. Almonds tend to have a lot of monosaturated fat. But that is okay, because monosaturated fats are great for you, and in fact, are an excellent source of fat for your body. The bad type of fat for your body - the type of fat that you need to watch out for, is the saturated fat, of which almonds have none of that. However, I'm getting off track, back to the protein. When it comes to protein, a serving of almonds (1/4 cup) has more protein than an egg. While that may not seem like much, simply snaking on almonds throughout the day is an easy way to ensure that you get as much protein as you need. Number 3 - Venison When most people think of meats, their minds turn to beef, chick, ham, turkey, and then maybe venison...if they are a hunter or really know their meats. But, in reality, venison should probably be at the top of their list when they are talking about meats. Because venison is absolutely loaded with protein, and contains hardly any fat at all. Just a 4oz serving of venison contains 69% of your daily recommended value of protein and get this, only 1.8 grams of fat. That's less than a footlong at Subway. With all this in mind, it's quite easy to see how great a source of protein venison is for you. Number 4 - Chicken This shouldn't really be much of a surprise to you, but yes, chicken really is a good source of protein, as well as one of them most popular meats around the world. Containing about 67% (just under venison), chicken is an excellent choice for those wanting a high source of protein in a food that is generally cheap, and tastes absolutely fantastic. But, with chicken you really do have to be careful. There are so many different ways of preparing chicken, and not all of them are the best for you. Certain ways (like frying) will skyrocket the amount of fat you are putting into your diet, so just be careful. Personally, I like to either bake or boil my chicken. I usually just throw on some spices, and it tastes great. Number 5 - Lentils Now, I could have put a number of different foods here for number five. But I felt it was important not to have an entire list consisting of different kinds of meat. So, I picked a fantastic source of protein for a bean/legume. Lentils. Lentils contain about 18 grams of protein per one serving (1 cup). So, it is pretty easy to get enough protein from lentils if that's what you wanted to do. Additionally, lentils have some of the highest concentrations of dietary fiber, which is really, really good for your digestive system. The lentils also will help you lower your cholesterol if that is part of your problem. If you want a good source of protein and a food that will lower your cholesterol and will fill you up with dietary fiber, then lentils are for you. After reading through this list of high protein low fat foods, I hope you have gained some useful information in what you can eat other than beef or eggs to get your protein. There are a lot of different protein sources and these are just a couple of them - but some of the best.

Hairstyles For Your Perfect Day

A wedding plays up every single aspect of the bride's appearance. Makeup is applied to professional standards, the gown fits every curve just perfectly, and the shoes peek out stylishly from underneath. In planning for your wedding, you no doubt also want your hair to look sexy and elegant as well. Here are some style ideas and tips to get you started on your path to ultimate bridal beauty. The main thing to take into consideration when deciding on a wedding hairstyle is your own personal style. If you are a free spirit who is never seen with hair pulled back into a tight bun, then don't consider this hairstyle for your wedding day. The way you look on your wedding day will be immortalized forever in photographs, so be true to who you are and your own unique style. That being said, the dress you choose will somewhat dictate how you wear your hair for the big day. Some dresses call for hair to be worn up, while others are perfectly accentuated by ringlets of hair falling down around the shoulders. The secret to sexy hair for any occasion is soft, touchable texture. With that as the ground rule, let's look at a few wedding hairstyles that could work for long, short and medium hair. Long hair is great because can wear it bohemian chic or in an elegant up-do. For wedding hair that exudes the utmost of your romantic side, try this style. Pin hair up into a loose updo with soft, wispy tendrils or sensual, sweeping curls. Feminine to the extreme, this is a simple style that is easy to create and perfectly compliments a Cinderella ball gown or dress with ruffles, tulle and lace. Accentuate this poetic wedding hairstyle with jewels or fresh fragrant flowers that will draw your groom to you like nothing else. Medium hair works in a wide array of wedding hairstyles easily. This length falls right around the shoulders, and looks beautiful with a loose braid or two woven through the front. Another very trendy look is to weave in a loosely braided headband. Ashley Simpson is just one celeb who has sported this super sexy look in recent months. Starting with a deep part to one side, grab a small section of hair and begin braiding loosely across the forehead. Medium length hair can keep going once you have reached the side of the head opposite from where your braid started, and end at the back of the head in a loose chignon for extra panache. Again, pull out some loose pieces of hair and insert a few fresh flowers or some bling. Short hair has posed problems for some brides, because they have an image of being a long-haired bride. Because trends have gravitated towards short hair in recent years, there are plenty of short wedding styles you can choose from, without finding yourself in that position of simply having slicked back hair pinned tightly to your head. Chin length short hair can be curled into soft ringlets that fall around the face, with a back that is full and high. This is easily accomplished with a bit of teasing and some hair spray. This length of hair, if straight, can be simply tucked behind the ear and held into place with a large flower for a look that is modern yet romantic.

Is Your Low Fat Diet Making You Fat and Depressed?

You're trying to look your best, struggling to drop those excess pounds following all the expert advice to eat a low fat diet. As a result you are hungry, frustrated, depressed and not losing weight.

As Americans have decreased their fat intake; obesity, anxiety, disease and depression have risen. According to Julia Ross psychologist and executive director of The Recovery Systems Clinic, in Mill Valley, California 50% of Americans have depression or anxiety. Additionally, 60% are overweight yet undernourished.

The way to permanent weight loss is not through deprivation of fat.

If you are feeling hungry, depressed or have mood swings this may be a sign that you are lacking essential fat in your diet; important for cell membranes, healthy skin, hormones and absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Fat slows down digestion making you feel fuller longer, gives you energy and is a key factor in helping to boost your mood and avoid depression.

Eat real wholesome food.

Organic raw cheese, plain whole yogurt, coconut oil, wild fatty fish and grass fed meats provide necessary nutrients for keeping you satisfied and preventing overeating, mood swings and depression. When our ancestors ate butter, whole milk, meat and cheese there were not epidemics of obesity, diabetes or depression. The difference is they didn't eat highly processed foods.

Refined carbohydrates, processed foods and sugars are the real bad guys that cause health problems and most people are addicted to these foods. When foods are processed to remove the fat they usually contain more sugar and chemicals to replace it and give the food some sort of flavor. Additionally, they contain little nutrients making the body hungry for more. Removing the fat just makes it a fake food that is unsatisfying. I mean have you tasted a piece of low fat cheese? Yuk!

Eat your yolks!

I must also make special mention of egg yolks, which are loaded with vitamins, minerals and protein. Going along with the low fat sham, you are throwing these in the garbage not only wasting money but valuable nutrients as well. Stop the madness! Make sure to get farm fresh eggs from pastured chickens and avoid eggs from factory farms.

Diet plays a crucial role in mental as well as physical health. Your body knows what it needs; you may just have to learn how to listen a little better. The marketing of low fat products has been convincing in saying that fat makes us fat and it is bad for us. It is simply not true. Don't fall for the false marketing claims of low fat "foods". Stop feeling depressed, hungry and guilty, focus on real whole foods, include fat from natural sources on a regular basis and stay away from the fake stuff!
